Human plus machine

is more powerful than either human or machine alone.

Don Norman's Design of Everyday Things is one of the best books I have ever read-- he blends insight with technicality perfectly.

Some of my favorite quotes:

"Reliance on Technology is a benefit to humanity. With technology, the brain gets neither better nor worse. Instead, it is the task that changes. Human plus machine is more powerful than either human or machine alone. "
"I dream of the power of individuals, whether alone or in small groups, to unleash their creative spirits, their imagination and their talents to develop a wide range of innovation. New technologies promise to make this possible. "
"Design is Concerned with how things work, how they are controlled and the nature of the interaction between people and technology. When done well, the results are brilliant, pleasurable products. When done badly, the products are unusable, leading to great frustration and irritation."
